Okay. So, im taking a vocal tech class for school and they are gonna teach us how to read music and i wanna learn how to play guitar this year so….how hard would it be to learn how to play if i know how to read music?
It depends how you plan to learn guitar. There is music notation (reading music off the page) and there are guitar tabs which don’t require any music-reading. When I started, getting the callouses on the fingers were the hardest (two to three weeks). Afterwards, it just takes practice. Anyway…
I don’t think it relates too much to how well one can play. It’s more a matter of talent and practice. Some feel it is hard, some feel it easy. The only way to find out if it’s easy or hard is to try for yourself. But, knowing the notes already should help significantly especially with fingerstyle guitar.
Well knowing how to read music is one thing but learning how to read it for guitar is another. Playing guitar is not as easy as some think…. First of all you have to train your fingers and hand muscels, it takes months just to get the callouses that you need in order to play without pain. If you learn correctly from the start I’d say in two years you should be able to play things like Yesterday fingerstyle, some chords, and maybe some theory. Being able to read music for voice is one thing, learning where the notes are on the guitar is another, your left and right hand have to know where these notes are….completly different then just looking at the notes for voice, playing guitar is just like anything else it takes time, patience, and hard work, you didn’t learn to read overnight so your not going to learn how to play guitar in a few months. Just take your time and learn the correct way and if you have musical talent and put in the nessasary work you should be able to play quite a few songs in two years. Most young people that I have worked with want to sit down and have few lessons and think that they should be able to play, well it doesn’t work that way, It’s not easy to go from chord to chord with ease…..in fact in the beginning it’s very awlkward. If you can’t afford a teacher go on one of the guitar sites and they have lots of good ones, here are a few that you could look over and see what you think, good luck, bye. (click on the guitar)
Wish you luck !!!!!!! Hope these help !!!!!!
If you read treble cleff it will make it a lot easier. YOu will still have to learn how to move your fingers, and build calouses and all that … but learning to read unlocks a world of material.
Guitar players are FAMOUS for constantly noodling on the instrument (secretly trying show off) yet not knowing how to read – or really anything about music.
Thus, as the joke goes – Q: how do you get a guitar player to STOP playing?
A: put sheet music in front of him.
You learn to read. It will make things a little easier.
