I am a percussionist in high school. I can read most rhythms and can slowly cite read melodic music on marimbas ect. I have been playing seriously for two years and have improved incredibly. I would like to attempt to learn how to play piano this summer. I understand the basics with reading bass cleft and treble cleft, but know nothing about the fingering and how to get started. Any tips on how to start out? any music/book suggestions? Thanks!

    get lesson books that have fingerings on them. thumb is #1.
    you really should take some lessons to learn the basics, the rest is work. get Hannon finger exercises. Strength and dexterity is your friend. be sure to work both hands.

    I think the best way to learn piano by yourself is to watch videos specially oriented to teach every single detail you need to know to play piano.
