The trick is to read and follow it VERY slowly until you are familiar enough with the piece to play it faster.

You should not rush through to get to the end of a piece ,so to speak, you should go slow enough that you do not make a mistake and if you do go back to the beginning and start over again striving for perfection.

Actually you should not be using sheet music at this point but rather practicing your scales and when you get those basics down move to sheet music.

And try and find an inexpensive metronome it is invaluable in your studies.

    Good luck!!!

Practise. It takes many, many years to develop perfect sight reading.

Chill. It gets easier with a lot of practice and hard work. There’s nothing I can think of to make it easier, but then, if evryone could play a piece perfectly at first sight, why would anyone need to practice? You just gotta play the piece over, or just the difficult parts anyway, till they come smoothly. It can be frustating, but you sure feel good when it comes right. So don’t give up, and keep practising!!

I have the same problem. I would love to play the piano but I only know the basics and I just can’t read the notes and put them in my fingers..so I just play by ear. ;)
