I want to take music in the leaving cert exam but I cant read music…
is it possible for me to learn in 2 years?
do I have a shot at higher level?
And do you know of any good free resources on the internet that teach to do so.
if not free then would you know any good ones that you would recomend yourself that have a reasonable price?

ive read more of the answers and people are saying why I need two years, well I have to learn a lot as well as sheet reading, I have to be able to play an unprepared song – or two, and theres also loads of added guestions like about the style of music, irish music, the way an orcestra is put together… Ive got two long years ahead of me!… lol

you need a teacher to teach you the basic to sight read. after that you can train by yourself, to make it faster and apply it in the more complicated sheet music.
but sight read it self don’t guarantee you past cert exam, there should be more of that, like knowing chord, rhythm, soft or hard touch in piano

Once you are more comfortable with your time, develop an internal clock instead of tapping any body parts for reference.
