I am an electrical engineering major, and so I need to read a lot from the textbooks to get the subject matter down. However, reading books about CMOS/VLSI circuits, power electronics, electromagnetism, control systems….well, even people who love the subject matter find it boring!

Any suggestions on how I can just read this stuff? I’ve tried everything – reading at the library, reading at home, reading with TV on, reading with TV off, reading with some soft background music, reading in a comfortable chair, reading in a non-comfortable chair, reading in a chair in between, reading with lots of light, reading with no light, reading in the morning, reading at night, reading laying down, reading at work, reading outside, reading on a full stomach, reading high…it’s just so hard for me to keep focused! And I’ve ready plenty of novels before, just textbooks are difficult for me. The hardest part is just to start most of the time!

Listen up engineer, I’m an accounting major and if you think engineering is boring, accounting is worse…much worse. My motto, just do it. What you may try to do is divide up your time, study for 30 minutes here, 30 minutes there that sort of thing.

im not sure if it’s worth it, but in a private place, read out loud, and make up funny stories, such as this circuit breaker ran into that conductor wire, they had a big fight, sparks flew, things got heated, and they both saw the light…i mean, be creative about it and apply everything you know to the real world and everything you have experienced. If it helps, and if you are able, look at what you are reading in your house, dorm, or wherever you are. Look at it with your own eyes and play it out while looking at it. I dont know if i helped..but maybe. God Bless.
