Hey, ya’ll. I just asked a while ago about the cello and the violin.
I asked my mom, and she said that if I knew how to read music, she’d consider taking the time to find me a teacher. I’m very thankful. She’s probably right – it would be pretty handy for me to learn to read piano music. xD;;
Well, I’ve been playing the piano for 9++ years, and I know how to place my fingers and how to play, really. I’ve been playing by ear the whole time. I can listen to just about anything and put it into piano, but I still can’t figure out how to read music.
My old teacher was beginning to teach me how, but I only had one thirty minute lesson a week, and that wasn’t enough. Then my dad lost his job, and I quit so I could keep riding and showing horses. Now I’m regretting it because I really enjoy playing.
I would love to get a teacher now, but I’m already spending $25++ dollars a week on keeping up with my horses and taking some lessons on western riding. That takes up all of my paycheck at the barn.
I will say this. If there is no way to learn online, I will resort to asking my sister’s best friend if he can teach me. He’s awesome at the piano and is in the top three in the state on the trumpet, (high school band… Why didn’t I join? >.>).
I sometimes find sheet music and have him play it so that I can try to pick out what the notes meant. It worked for a couple of songs, but it’s still more playing by ear than it is reading music. He’s willing to teach me – I’m just a little shy and would like to try a few other things first.
Any suggestions?

learning to read music
You can extract musical symbols from the Internet and even the notes by name on the grand staff. The actual learning of the notes on the lines and spaces for your instrument could be your next challenge.
Then you must consider the details of reading music, such as duration of each note and rest, key signature identification, and time or metric used.
I admit there is much you can get from the Internet websites, but learning theory associated with your instrument of choice would be a challenge.
Start fishing around on the websites to see what information is available in music theory.
Asking your sister’s friend to help you may be the best option to consider.
