It is a nightmare that none of us wish to have come true, a nightmare that involves our favorite MP3 player, with all our favorite songs, being drenched in water before our very eyes! And it can happen instantly, whether it’s in our hands, our pockets, or our bags, caused by anything from a car splashing over a puddle, rain suddenly pouring, or just being the victim of a friend’s watery prank. It doesn’t matter which of these scenarios occur, because the end result is the same, a wet, soggy, broken MP3 player.

Usually, this means the end of the MP3 player, which in turn means the end of enjoying music from that particular device. This is because most popular MP3 players are so advanced, yet so delicate, that they can’t last being in contact with water for more than a couple of seconds. This means that, as popular as these MP3 players are, they aren’t suited for people with more active lifestyles, lifestyles that bring them to close proximity of the water.

There is a solution to this problem however, and it comes in the form of the waterproof MP3 device, which first appeared a few years ago. The waterproof player may be considered a niche product, but over the years, the devices became more and more aesthetically and technologically equal to standard, more stylish players. Because of this, waterproof players have become more and more popular, even to those who are not actively around water, and just want to make sure they have a device that’s protected.

The development of MP3 players came after the arrival of waterproof cases which worked, but not permanently. The MP3 players would be at risk once the case was open, and the cases would eventually develop leaks from wear and tear. And this is especially risky for people like hikers, swimmers, park rangers, and athletes who often find themselves within close proximity to water.

Waterproof players can easily keep out moisture and water, with some even capable of being submerged, and still play underwater. This kind of capability comes at a price, however, with costs ranging anywhere between $90 for a 2GB waterproof player, and $150 for a 1GB waterproof player that can be submerged. If you’re a water person, however, who still wants to enjoy good music, then these players are definitely for you.
