When Reason first came out it was a music software revolution. Created by the Swedish group Propellerhead Software, it provides everything that music software are expected to have, such as the synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, mixers, effects, etc., but presents them in a brand new way and with superior quality.
It’s almost exactly like a real studio, except it’s virtual. But the look of the components, from the bars, gliders, buttons etc., are all copied from the real hardware. Even without the use of any other sequencing software, you are already guaranteed to be able to create sounds never heard before.
The first version of Reason, versions 1.0, was released back in the year 2000. It was well known for its ability to act as a studio rack, allowing users to insert their own virtual instruments, processors, and effects into the program.
Since the first version’s arrival there have been four versions, the newest being Reason 5.0. The newest software has a number of features any music lover can enjoy and any professional artist can appreciate: Subtractive and graintable synthesizers, simple and advanced samplers, loop playback devices with pre-recorded samples, sample based drum machine, and 16-Pad drum synthesizer.
There are also a number of different effects available in Reason 5.0. Some of the most popular include but are not limited to distortion, reverb, a vocoder, a chorus and even popular mastering effects. There are also plenty of customizable features that come with Reason 5.0 which helps to make your experience a unique one when you’re using it.
The one down side to Reason 5.0 is that it cannot actually record audio, therefore disqualifying it from being a digital audio workstation. However, there are plenty of ways to get around this and to record your audio creations with just a few clicks of the mouse. You will also find that this software does not support third party plug ins which some people tend to criticize Reason for, but this lends itself to the reliable stability of the software.
