RelientKfanatic asked:

I am proficient in reading music/music theory. I’ve been playing piano for 6 years and guitar for almost 2. I am a super fan of Dave Matthews Band and because of that I really want to learn how to play the saxophone. What do i need to do next and how difficult will it be? just any info about this situation is welcome! thanks

once you’ve got the embouchure down, i’d venture to say it’ll be no more difficult than learning the guitar.

you’ve already got the music and basics down. from there on out it’s all about how much and how well you practice.

embouchure is your foundation- if you don’t get that right, everything else will be shaky. once you master it (and your mouth/chin/lips/cheeks stop aching) you’ll be able to wail!

    good luck!

It’s not really hard, or tiring (as opposed to a brass instrument). The only problem is reeds, its a pain to find a good one…

I’d recommend finding a friend or teacher who can help you get started with the correct embouchure, finger positions, and the basics. I’m sure there are videos and guides online, and there are certainly beginner books if you can’t get personal help.

Oh, and you’ll definitely want to buy this.

Don’t worry it’s really easy…Once you know the fingering for the saxophone keys (and know the embouchure) the rest is simple.

It took me literally 2 hours to learn fingerings and embouchure, and then the rest is just practicing. You know how to read notes, you know music theory, the rest is easy. Trust Me
