Charlie1Way asked:
I really want to learn how to play electric guitar. I plan on buying an acoustic first and teaching myself to play somehow.
So i was wondering if it would be better to learn how to read music notes before i learn play or while i do so or not at all?

How to Read Music Notes
Well it certainly will be easier!
But you could always just look up guitar tabs and stuff
But I must say, it wouldn’t hurt to learn them! ^^
How to Read Music Notes
I bought an Acoustic over a year ago and stopped because it is very hard to teach your self.i recommend you take lessons.and ya it probably is a good idea to learn how to read music first.I just kinda printed chords out and tried but it was hard.tabs are much easier.so if you want to just get a feel of playing i suggest printing a few easy tabs and starting there.once you get a feel for it mover on to chords
How to Sight Read Music
You should probably just learn the notes/chords as you learn to play them. Sure, you can learn what letter each note stands for, but the letters themselves won’t mean much until you know how they’re played.
But try to learn the rhythmic values of the notes first. If you already know how long to hold out each type of note/rest, that will be one less thing to worry about while you’re actually learning to play your guitar.
One last thing: you can teach yourself to play on some level, but it’s best to at least have a friend who can help you– it’s a lot to do by yourself!
