Learn How to Read Music Notes
On a staff you’lll see 5 lines and 4 spaces. On a treble clef( see) The five lines from bottom to top are EGBDF. If you notice, the skip a letter. A good way to remember this is by remembering the phrase Every Good Boy Deserves Football. The four spaces from bottom to top are FACE. Notice how they spell the word face. So you can fill in in with EFGABCDF. Middle C is a ledger line (a line that crosses the note) below E. Between C and E is D.
Middle C is a white key in the middle of the piano followed by a black, white, black, 2white, black, white, black , white, black, white. The pattern repeats throughout the piano.
The bass cleff (see) starts below middle C so there is a B between the top line which is A.
The lines from the bottom to the top are GBDFA, which can be remembered as Good Boy Deserve Football Always. The spaces are ACEG, which can be remembered by all cows eat grass.
Remeber that Lower notes are on the bottom and work their way up. That’s why the base clef is usually played with the left hand and the treble clef is played with the right. There are many exceptions to this.
A whole note(or semibreve), an empty circle is 4 beats.
A half note (minim), an empty circle with a stem is 2 beats.
A quarter note (crochet), a filled in Circle with a stem is a quarter note.
An eighth note (quaver), a filled in circle with a tail is a sixteenth note.
