Just remember: SPACE = FACE AND
Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge
The spaces starting at the bottom of a bar start out with F then up a space is A then C and E…. the notes on the lines starting at the bottom go the same way… E then up one line is G then B, D and finally F. Now depending on WHAT is on the line is how long you play the note for. Usually (common time) per section (measure) is 4 beats. So if a WHOLE note is there you will play that note for the full four beats… a whole note is an oval shaped circle without a tail… a half note (equal to 2 beats) is an open circle with a tail, a single note (equal to 1 beat) is a solid circle with a tail and then there is a note that is equal to 3 beats and that is an open circle with a tail and a dot next to it. Some times you will see symbols to “rest” where no note is played and you just keep the beat in your head for the corresponding amount of time… there are rest symbols but I can only recall what one of them looks like and it sort of looks like a lightening bolt.
Good luck, it’s like riding a bike, once you learn you’ll never forget
