As you learn to read music you’ll quickly begin seeing a number of symbols that at first look quite strange, these are called accidentals.
Here are the accidentals and what they mean to your music reading:

Flat - b  Lower the note by one half step
Sharp - # Raise the note by one half step
Natural -

natural-music-symbol  This cancels out a sharp or a flat and returns the note to its natural form.
Double Sharp - X   Raise the note by 2 half steps
Double Flat – bb  Lower the note by 2 half steps
