otherguy asked:
I want to teach myself how to read music and hopefully teach myself to play the piano after that. i have no musical background at all. If anyone knows a free place to learn how to read music that would be very greatly appreciated. Also, if you know a free site or program that gives piano lessons I would like that info
Thanks

How to Sight Read Music
Honestly, I would get a piano teacher. It costs, but they will teach you everything you need to know, you will learn much, much faster and will be 10 times better. They will be able to instantly tell you if there’s anything wrong with your technique etc, and will know the best thing for you to practice to improve.
But if there no way you can get one, try here:
Oh, and things to remember:
- Learn Scales!!!
- Use a metronome
Both are incredibility important. You might find it boring playing the same scale over and over again at some low BPM, but it will make your a lot, lot better.
And you should start learning piano now and learn how to read music as you go along. It’s a bit pointless if you can read music but can’t relate it to anything.

Go to click on the Education tab, then note reading. He has a lot of good stuff there, and it is a new approach to note reading. Pretty self explanatory, and might be able to help you toward your piano goal. If I were you, I would learn the basics, MAKE SURE you pay attention to note reading and fingering, then find a qualified teacher to take a few lessons from once you get past the basics to make sure you are on the right path. A lot of teaching studios will let you do a ‘trial lesson’ or have no contract and will let you take just a few lessons to keep on track. Good luck!
