time signatures are that thing at the front of the first bar in music, usually looks like a fraction sign. the lower number indicates the note value which represents one beat (the “beat unit”);
the upper number indicates how many such beats there are in a bar
so most commonly if it’s a 4 a quarter note will be one beat. If it’s 8 a quarter note gets the beat if it’s 2 a half note gets it, 1 a whole note, etc, etc
ive been playing several instruments for 5 years and its stilll a little complicated for me butl the top number represents the amount of beats that can fit in the measure and the bottom represents how many parts are in each beat so if the time signature was 4/4 then there are 4 beats in a measure and a beat is made up of 4 parts.
