Music Vocalist asked:
I’ve heard of an offline program called “The Composer” that is supposed to be good.
Also there’s a site called http://www.SpeedyMusicReading.com that I’ve heard of.. And then there’s always flashcards that alot of people have tried to use.
Feedback on any of these anyone?

Learning to Read Music
I’ve not used online sources. I learned the good ol fashioned way – with wonderful private music teachers. I’d suggest that – find someone who has a music degree- which means they likely had to take fairly intensive music theory classes- and see if they’d be willing to teach you or at least lend you their old textbooks.

Never heard of any of them.
Honestly, the best way to learn to read music is to have someone you know teach you, and then constantly practice on your instrument.
For example, the middle line is a B, and the space below is an A, so if you keep playing a simple repeating sequence with those two notes you’ll pick it up quickly.
And then perhaps, add a G or maybe a C or an E … etcetera..

I don’t know a good website or program cuz I learned in school, but the lines in the treble cleff (the one used most of the time) are from bottom up E.G.B.D.F. (a good way to remember it is Every.Good.Boy.Deserves.Fudge. or Even.George.Bush.Drives.Fast)
And the spaces from bottom up spell F.A.C.E.
