Once you start playing your instrument, the lesson book should teach you how to read music. It’s a lot easier once you are playing the instrument. If you haven’t decided your instrument, i recommend the bass.
what brand newest amour said. if you are starting an instrument go and grab a book for beginners(like they have tons for guitar, piano, flute…). it will make i a whole lot easier to do
there is so much to teach about reading and learning music, it would take me an hour to type it all down(sorry i’m lazy)
here are some links that can help you understand.
remember:with anything new, it’s not going to be as simple as reading it and knowing it forever. its not as hard as it seems though. just put time and some effort into it and you’ll have it in no time
You already have some reasonable advice posted.I would start with a book called “Teaching little fingers to play” by John Thompson. If you haven’t picked an instrument yet learn the piano first. It is the most complete instrument and demands the most all around knowledge of music as it encompasses the three main sections of music on one instrument. when you can play piano it is only a matter of learning how to form the notes on any other instrument. Don’t complicate things for yourself, do not get a book that refers to thing like “quarter notes” etc as it makes something that is easy harder to understand. Don’t give up, the effort is worth it
You’ll be glad you did. I’ve been a vocalist and musician for 10 years and not being able to read music held me back for years and years. Check out the site below for some help.
