The music notes that fall on spaces in the bass clef are A-C-E-G.  “All Cars Eat Gas” is the saying to remember the bass clef spaces.  (If you like cows better than cars, use “All Cows Eat Grass”)

The music notes on the bass clef lines are G-B-D-F-A.  The sentence we use to remember the lines is, “Good Boys Do Fine Always”. 

If you can think of your own sentences to help you remember the note names, go ahead and use them.  The most important thing is that as you get more comfortable reading the notes you learn to read music instinctively and naturally. It takes a bit of time to get comfortable bit in time your subconcious recognizes and picks up the information fairly quickly (especially if you’re using a good music reading program)

Since piano players use two hands to play, the music for each hand is written on a separate clef.  The treble clef is for the right hand notes and the bass clef is for the left hand notes.  When both of these staves are written together, it is called the Grand Staff.

Music notes and pitches are named using the first seven letters of the alphabet:   A B C D E F G.   A ‘clef’ placed at the beginning of the staff  fixes the position of the pitches on the staff.

The treble clef, also called the G clef, indicates that the note G falls on the second line.  Notice how the bottom of the clef’s stylized G wraps around the second line.  Music for melodic instruments such as  the violin, and flute, as well as music for singers and guitarists is usually written in the treble clef. It’s the most common clef, therefore it’s critical for anyone serious about learning how to read music notes to recognize it.
