We’re taking a quick break today from my Learn to Read Music music theory and music education lesson series…

I’ve got to tell you about this great movie I just rented. It reminded me so much of my passion for music and why I think it’s so important for every serious musician to learn to read music and take his craft seriously. The movie is called the Soloist. Have you seen it?

It was so good. There were alot of great themes about humanity and struggle. Also, there was so much about the love and passion for music.

The guy played by Jamie Foxx (I don’t remember his character’s name) was a musician at the amazing music school Julliard. He was incredibly talented and played a number of instruments. Over time and battling a serious mental illness he wound up on the street. However, even with a half broken mind his love for Beethoven and classical music abounded and he beautified the sounds of New York with a two string Violin and a cello given to him by a friend.

It’s great. I know you love music and as much as I do and that you want to take your music education seriously, so you should definately check it out.

Adagio is an Italian word meaning slow. It is an indication of the music’s tempo and is frequrently used to describe a slow movement, even when the indication of speed at the start of the movement may be different. (much like an accelerando in which the rest of the piece may be a different tempo than the part marked with this phrase)

Aria is an italian phrase appearing sometimes with the earlier English spelling ayre, means a tune or melody, for voice or instrument. It’s typically a vocally challenging song meant to showcase the talent and vocal range of the musician.

How should we honor a music legend? Music educaiton, learn to read music, master music theory, etc...

Yesterday we lost a legend, Les Paul. For those who don’t know, Les was a musician, inventor and guitar maker who’s solid body guitar and unique sound and style created a generation of guitar lovers, music lovers and musicians.

You can learn a bit more here…

http://www.cleveland.com/popmusic/index.ssf/2009/08/_les_paul.html

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/13/les-paul-dies/?apage=6

Here’s my take…

Les Paul was a great example of someone who’s love for music fueled the same in people around the world. He said it himself, “Alot of people think I’m a guitar… It’s OK. I just do what I like to do anyway.”

Would you like to be the kind of musician that when other people come around they just can’t help but love music?

Honor him today by becoming the musician that you know you can be. Almost all of us hold ourselves back through laziness, not wanting to do the work to master music theory or doing what it takes to really learn to read music right.. Don’t let that be you. Learn How to Read Music, Study music theory, do the hard work that it takes to really become great. It’ll be worth it. You’ll be walking in the footsteps of some other greats, like Mr. Paul himself…

Start Here:

You can also get line 6 Tones and details of the tones I create for these videos free on my new website. Plus much more! Join Now! Its free! This is by request of so many out there! And yes it is a pain to show someone how to do this on video. lol! Dont take it personal though I said that people. It was just fustrating to slow it it down for me to show someone else who’s learning it. So the pain was really only mine? HaHa! I know im not that good with viedo lessons about piecing them together to make them perfect? I get the point accross and hope it helps people? I do like helping our younger musicians, and friends out when I have the time to do it. The best advise I can give a musician is to learn to read music, and get books to learn from instead of these guitar tabs online. 99% of the time they are wrong! Then you learn the song wrong then teach others wrong. There is always something you will leave out or play wrong from these tabs online. Always! Unless some one has copied them from a guitar book that is? When ever I can! I will always learn it from a book. I know there not cheap, but try ebay, I have gotten books really cheap there under $10.00 and its worth you learning correctly! I do this song by ear only (No Online tabs) It should be very close! But do get a book if you can ever find one? I have …
