okay so i’m 13 and attempting to teach myself guitar, so i’d like to know how to read music (i know it’s possible to plan an instrument without reading note music, but i think it would just be easier if i could).

i know the difference between a whole note and a half note (ect.), and that’s about it. i’d like to learn to read note music well, and quickly, what would you suggest?
i’ve already tried flashcards and that was no help whatsoever, so are there any (specific) books or just methods in general that you’d recommend?
oh and i’ve also heard that the best way is to “learn by doing”, is this true?
